Originally inhabited by the Algonquin Native Americans, and settled by the Europeans in the 17th century, Montauk has a rich and varied history. According to old legend, pirate treasure is buried here, though it’s never been uncovered. In the Prohibition era, Montauk was a drop-off point for the Rum Runners smuggling illicit alcohol.
Today, Montauk is considered one of the East Coast’s premier vacation destinations. Its location at the east end of Long Island provides everything from spectacular views to world-class sport fishing and hiking (as well as simply relaxing on the beautiful sandy beach). Montauk Downs, one of country’s top rated golf courses, is here, as are fantastic shopping and dining opportunities.

Please Note: If you are using a GPS device to assist with directions to Gurney’s Inn, be aware that there are two 290 Old Montauk Hwy locations in Montauk. We are the location before (west of) the hamlet of Montauk, not after it. Enter “Gurney’s Inn” in the GPS, not the address.
